Yachtmaster Instructor

Helping you to get more out of your time on the water with training & skippering at home and abroad.

Welcome to Wetstuff, because there is simply nothing so fine as messing about in boats! Over the last 30 years or so, I have been lucky to play on the water while taking part in a very wide range of activities. Whether it be kayaking the Great Glen in Scotland, diving near Spit Sand Fort in the Solent, or sailing the Baltic or even further afield my passion for being on, or in, the water has found many outlets. All of this experience comes together to help me assist others get more out of their time on the water.

I have been delivering RYA Sail Cruising courses for nearly 30 years now, both afloat and ashore in the form of theory courses. Whether you want to sail off in to the sunset on a square-rigger, take part in the notorious Fastnet Race, or just sail off with friends and family I can help you get more out of your time on the water. With over 100,000 miles of sailing since starting while in the Army in 1987, I am one of the most experienced instructors out there.

Your Sailing Instructor John Wetton

wetstuff logoQualifications wise, I have been a Yachtmaster Instructor Sail since 1996 and have been teaching every year since then. I've sailed around much of the UK, parts of the Baltic, the Canaries, out of Gibraltar and across the Atlantic. Boats sailed have ranged from Optimist dinghies, through the usual Jeanneau and Bavaria, etc. and on to 72 feet round the world race yachts and square-riggers.

Changing tack from offshore sailing, I am also and Advanced Powerboat Instructor, SRC Assessor (VHF radio), Sea Survival Instructor and World Sailing Offshore Safety Instructor. Couple this with having been a Dinghy Instructor and Kayak Instructor early in my outdoor career, and more recently recreational diving and you'll see that I can relate to many water based activities.

All of these qualification stress the importance of creating a relaxed, fun training environment with safety always the priority. Together with a healthy respect for the elements after being caught out more than once when the weather changes, plus time on the lifeboat crew and HM Coastguard this all means you are in safe hands if you choose me to help you get more out of your time afloat.
